Sherwood Junior Baseball prides itself on its community of umpires, established in the Fall of 2022. We are always looking for additional umpires to help staff our Spring and Fall ball games.

UMPIRE FAQs

WHO CAN BE AN UMPIRE?

Any community member, 14 years and older can be a Sherwood JBO umpire.

WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?

We will cover gear needs at our informational meeting. Here is a loose list of what you can expect:

  • Light Blue/Dark Blue/Black Umpire shirt

  • Gray Umpire pants

  • Shin Guards

  • Chest Protector

  • Helmet

  • Ball Bag

  • Plate Brush

  • Pitch Counter

  • Black Hat (no logos)

  • Plate Shoes (for Federal/Seniors games)

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

To get started, please fill out the following form so we have a way of contacting you.

Additionally, plan to attend an informational meeting any Wednesday of April at 7:00PM. A Google link will be sent once you have completed the form above.

WHAT DOES UMPIRING PAY?

Umpire pay ranges based on the division of play. A single game at the Minor level starts at $40/game, where as Senior games start at $60/game.

Payment for games will be paid bi-weekly via check from the SJBO Treasurer or President.

All SJBO umpires are 1099 employees and will be asked to fill out appropriate tax documents.

WILL YOU TRAIN ME?

Absolutely. The best way to get started is to study the JBO rule book. SJBO will be holding several training opportunities in April as the season approaches. Plan to attend 1-2 of these events to help you get started.

SJBO uses an App called Home Base to help schedule and run payroll for our umpires. You will be invited to join via your preferred form of contact.
