COMPETITIVE BASEBALL

Welcome to SJBO’s competitive baseball league, offering three skill levels tailored to each grade level (Minors: Grades 3/4, Juniors: Grades 5/6, Seniors: Grades 7/8). From rookies to seasoned players, we provide an inclusive platform where every athlete can excel and grow within their abilities, fostering healthy competition and a passion for the game at every level.

Sherwood Junior Baseball is an affiliate of Junior Baseball of Oregon (JBO). This includes teams from all over Oregon and Southwest Washington. Teams participating in JBO Baseball play games at one of three skill levels (Federal, American and national) and compete each year for the JBO Championship at their level.

Team participating in JBO have the opportunity to qualify for the Westside Youth Baseball District Tournament and in the JBO Championship Tournament, which is comprised mostly of teams within the state.

  • The competitive league is split based on grade level—not age. Our senior division is meant for grades 7 and 8, Juniors for grades 5 and 6, and Minors for grades 3 and 4. In rare circumsances, a 2nd grader is allowed to play up with the minor division.

  • In Sherwood, Federal baseball is the pinnacle of skill and dedication within JBO. Top players from Minor, Junior, and Senior Leagues often transition to Federal, showcasing exceptional hitting, pitching, and fielding abilities.

Beyond talent, Federal-level baseball demands a significant investment of time and commitment from players.

  • In Sherwood, American Level baseball represents the next tier within JBO, with players excelling in two or three skills and showing above-average proficiency in others.

  • In Sherwood, National Level baseball reigns as the largest in JBO, showcasing players with diverse skill sets. From zero to one standout skill and varying levels in others, high-level Nationals can handle American play but might find a full season challenging.

  • Our competitive league starts shortly after the final evaluations—usually right after Sherwood School District’s Spring Break.

Coaches typically contact their players the week before Spring Break as long as we have coaches to fill all of the teams. Practices are typically 3-4 days a week in the pre-season, with League games starting from mid-April to May 1.

Our league season typically runs from mid-to-late April through June. Teams who qualify for the District and State Tournaments will see the potential of their season extending into early July.

RECREATIONAL BASEBALL

Sherwood’s Recreational Baseball league is our developmental program for young players interested in learning baseball skills in non-competitive leagues. The program is divided up into 3 leagues: T-ball, Rookies and Futures.

T-ball is typically composed of players ages 4-6 (Pre-K to K), teams of 7-8 players play two days a week, focusing on fun and the fundamentals of the game. The majority of the season is hit from a tee, but towards the end of the season, coaches may opt for coach pitch.

Rookies is for ages 7-8 (1st to 2nd), and uses a machine to pitch from the mound. Teams are formed with 12-12 players and play 2-3 days a week. This level is still very instructional and players who have no experience will fit perfectly at this level.

Futures is our last recreational level of play and is for ages 8-9 (2nd to 3rd). Futures is the first level at which players get the opportunity to pitch themselves from the mound. Coaches support the pitchers, stepping in after four ball have been thrown. The game is played with the same rules as our Minor National division, prepping players for the next level of play. Coaches take turns umpiring.
